No vehicle could run without tyres two wheeler or three wheelers or even four wheelers. All vehicles that are seen on the road need tyres. Hence tyres are the most important part of any vehicle after the wheels. A vehicle has hundreds of parts in it that that are combined together to perform one purpose, make the vehicle run perfectly well and carry you to the place of your choice.
Talking about tyres, they are of different types but the three main types for scooters and other motorcycles could be the radial tyres that are wide in size and made to fit modern bikes well. The next in line would be the bias tyres that are narrow and much older with rigid frames meant for bikes manufactured in the 1980’s. the latest model is the cross-ply which is widely in use today which is fitted with an inner-tube inside the tyre.
Another feature of tyres is tube tyres and tubeless tyres. While the tube tyres need air to be filled in it the tubeless tyres are operated with a different mechanisms. The recently manufactured scooters and bikes use the tubeless tyres which are more economic and easy to maintain.
New tyres normally seem to be a bit slippery and one may face skid problems while riding. This could be due to a smooth surface on the tyre that causes the skidding. The new tyre should be well scrubbed before use since many manufacturers use ‘releasing agents’ that give longer shelf life to the tyres.
Hence these releasing agent preservatives should be well scrubbed to give the tyre the rough surface that could grip perfectly while driving. The best way to get proper results from a new tyre is to run it for the first 100 miles in wet or poor conditions leaning the bike to the corners.
Many skidding incidents happen when very low speeds are taken after fitting new tyres or sometimes when the rider pulls out onto the road with much speed immediately after fitting a new tyre or sometimes when the rider takes a right turn while moving out of a T-junction. Such practice should be avoided when using new tyres.
Scooter wheels are small and hence the tyres too would be small. They cannot travel at great speed like larger motorbikes. Hence the rider of a scooter should be cautious when riding and taking turns. There are chances of the bike skidding over sandy or wet roads. Drive safely and enjoy the pleasure of a new scooter tyre.
