Off Road Scooters For Rough Terrains

The term ‘off road scooters’, actually does not mean something that is off the road.  It could also be considered as a rough terrain scooter operated by gas with a heavy duty suspension system ad powerful engines and strong tyres that are meant for rough terrains alone.  An alternate name for this is ‘dirt bikes’ because of the extensive use in terrain areas.

The salient features of a typical off road scooter are light weight and small engines, simple but rough construction with little to no body work and large wheels that are clamped to the rims by heavy rim locks.  One will notice that features are meant only for rough terrain rides unlike for city road rides that require style along with mileage.

The off-road scooter is not only meant for riding over rough terrains, it can also be used for motor sports like motocross, rally raid, trials, track racing etc. Scooters used for motocross are meant to race over jumps.  Hence the machines have very small fuel tanks with no legal attachments like indicators, lights etc.  They are meant for single passengers and the engine is a 250cc to 450cc four stroke engines with less weight.

The rally raid scooter is meant for racing long distances through deserts.  These are fitted with road legal machines that store more fuel in large capacitors.  The engines are four strokes ranging between 450cc to 660cc imposing on an upper limit for the safety of the rider.

Trials sport is purely a balancing skill and hence the off road scooter meant for this sport is not fitted with a seat since it would hinder the centre of gravity while balancing.  Engines too are two strokes with 125cc to 300cc alone.  For the track racing sport the off road scooter has no brakes, no suspension with two gears and has no road legal machines.  The fuel used is methanol.

The prices and other features and laws that bind these scooters can be had online.  One needs to check all details clearly before going in for an off-road scooter unless one needs to take part in racing sports.  Otherwise the off-road scooter can be used only for terrain riding if one lives in a hilly area.
