Electric scooters are easy to ride and hence it is liked by many even children.  But there is one point to keep in mind when thinking of an electric scooter.  There are certain restrictions with regard to age of the rider as well as the distance and place the scooter is meant to be ridden.  In certain cities and states it could be banned from use.

Talking about the types of electric scooters there are many types generally two wheeled designed with a handle bar steering.  The models vary from the operator standing while using one model and in another the operator has a provision to sit and can even carry two adults.

These scooters ca travel approximately at a speed of 8 to 12 mph for children and the more sturdy ones can reach the normal highway speeds.  The children’s models would however not have features like turn signals and brake lights.  But the larger and regular ones would have all these features inclusive of horns and fog lights as well.

Since the children’s electric scooter lack the required speed they are sometimes not allowed to be used in many cities and states.  In some cities they are made operational only at sidewalks and local parks since they lack the safety measures meant to operate a normal scooter.

However, with the increase in motorized vehicles emitting much effluent the electric scooter has become a star of being a eco friendly vehicle.  Many companies are into manufacturing these scooters which can seat two passengers and can travel at a speed of 25 to 65 mph.  Owners of these scooters should have a license and registration number like all other motorized vehicles.

The laws for operating an electric scooter vary from state to state.  Apart from these laws the general laws regarding use of the scooter is that one should be at least 16 years of age to use the scooter on a public road.  Annual registration of the vehicle is required.  Those 16 and above who operate the scooter are not allowed to wear helmets.  An E operator’s license is necessary for operating at a speed of 30mph.  PIP license is not necessary for scooter riders.

One needs to take all these laws seriously and maintain a friendly atmosphere while using the scooter along side walks and in parks.  On the highways too it is necessary that the speed limit restrictions are strictly followed to avoid unwanted accidents and damage to property and life.
