Buying scooters may seem easy and fun, but there are a few pros and cons in this too. One needs to be thorough with the maintenance and economic conditions in buying a scooter. Scooter prices have increased in the recent years, yet it could be fun to buy this piece of economy.
One needs to more-or-less go through the same process as buying a car. It should be borne in mind that the heavier the vehicle the more the cost, unless one is going in for a used vehicle. A quality scooter would sell at a minimum of $2000 for a light vehicle model and extend to up to $10,000 for a heavy model.
One would need to know how to choose the right scooter to suit one’s needs. Lighter models are meant for city use. Hence lighter models have lesser horse power that give speed limits of around 35mph or 55mph can be considered. If one needs something that would carry them long distances into the countryside, the models with 600cc horsepower offering a speed of 75 mph and more should be considered.
The next point to be taken into consideration would be whether automatic or manual transmission. Scooter manufacturers today recommend the automatic ones since they have low maintenance costs. The cables don’t break easily like the manual ones, and one need not add engine oil continuously to the automated scooters.
Buying used scooter may seem economic because of the price but maintenance and servicing would pose a difficult task since most service centers do not provide service to very old and used vehicles. Hence if one is going in for a used scooter top priority should be given to the brand name and one should check whether there are service stations available that do service to these scooters.
The additional accessories and costs that go with buying a scooter are not much but necessary. For instance registration, insurance and ownership taxes are mandatory. One needs to acquire a riding gear which would consist of a helmet, goggles, gloves and a jacket. The optional may be a windscreen, a battery tender or a cable lock. These add safety to the owner and the vehicle.
One needs to consider all these factors before entering into a contract with the dealer of a particular brand that one has chosen. If all these conditions are taken care of, scooter riding could be extreme fun.
